Right now in Ecuador, some of our members are assisting to develop the first Centre that Fundacion Fauna de La Amazonia have planned and developed independently. In the past, many of our members have assisted the organisation under its previous name of Flor de la Amazonia when it ran as an Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in another area of Pastaza Region. In fact, volunteering at the centre is how most of us met, but since then we have won support and solidarity from similarly minded people all over the world who want to help preserve the unique ecosystem in Ecuador.
The Fundacion has recently purchased close to forty hectares of older secondary jungle in a cloudforest/rainforest area of the Pastaza Region of Ecuador. We also work with other agencies and individuals who have the same aims and intentions as ourselves, including relevant governmental departments and other rescue and rehabilitation centres.
The aim and intention of all our direct work in Ecuador is the eventual release of the animals rescued into an environment which is their natural habitat. When this not possible – due often to the human damage caused to the animals – the aim is to enable the animals to have as peaceful and secure a life as possible in an environment that as best possible fulfils their natural needs.
We not only work with animals that are in danger, but also many plants which are under threat of extermination too. This includes many orchids and bromeliads which are directly damaged by deforestation, as well as the many which are removed in black-market trade.
As well as our sister organisation’s work over in Ecuador, we are a registered UK charity and we are committed to achieving our aims over here…
- Supporting the work of various organisations based in Ecuador through both fundraising and helping to spread the message here in the UK.
- Raising the UK’s public awareness about the plight of the flora and fauna of Ecuador and beyond through working with educational institutions and organisations who share our vision.
- Engaging with and encouraging possible volunteers interested in participating in the work in Ecuador.
